Tenerife – The Perfect Christmas and New Year Destination

The island of Tenerife - Easy JetThe island of Tenerife has year round sunshine – a winter temperature ranging between 17 and 21 degrees and on average 10 hours of daylight a day during this time.

In 2003 my husband and I took our children for a summer holiday and a stay in the tourist destination of Playa de la Americas. Needless to say, we didn’t enjoy our holiday in the location, in fact the saving grace was our daughter’s opportunity to swim with dolphins and us all to learn a little more about these glorious creatures, getting as up close and personal as we could. Yet it was on a catamaran trip to see the whales living and visiting in the coastal waters, which allowed us both to fall in love with the Atlantic Oceans sharp blue hue, clarity and abundant marine life.

San Blas - Tenerife

It’s taken us 10 years to return for a short break and to finally dip our fins as scuba divers into the Atlantic, treat ourselves to a stay at the Sandos, all inclusive resort of San Blas, situated on its very own nature reserve. A great place for a pre or post christmas break and to understand Tenerife in its own right – as a mountainous, volcanic (and going by the weather we experienced whilst there) surprising island. I hope you’ll join me over the next couple of posts as I explore and experience some of what the little island has to offer.

And if you’ve been there before, as always,

I’d love to know your thoughts…

  1. Whilst we were there, the island experienced flash flooding – it brought a different perspective. I’ll talk about it in future posts. The ocean is amazing – I quite agree!
